The European Journal of Social Psychology published a paper in which it determined that it takes, on average, 66 days to change a habit. Remember, though, if you aren't invested in the change itself, 66 days won't get you any closer than 166 days, or more.
Some habits, if you are really determined to change them, can be altered almost immediately. You are the one driving the change.
So what does this have to do with business you may ask. Plenty! There is always room for improvement in the business world. How do you treat employees; what level of service do you provide to your clients; how is your advertising working? Determine what has not been working so well in your business and set out a logical, slow plan of change. Remember, rapid change is hard to maintain. You must also determine if these changes are going to benefit your business or if you are making changes just to make changes.
One of my resolutions? Be more proactive instead of reactive. As Mahatma Gandhi said, "You must be the change you want to see in the world.” Not such a bad plan for the new year is it?
