I am going to be a little irreverent today and talk about what you shouldn't say in polite company. Body noises and meetings. Admit it, you have all had this dilemma. You just had to have the soda for lunch and now you are in a meeting when a big belch is working its way up your intestines. Or, you have the hiccups and are trying to stifle them. Or worse, you had beans for lunch. Need I say more?
What happens when you accidentally burp or break wind? Do you ignore it and hope everyone else does as well? Do you make a big deal and announce in a loud voice that you are "well brought up" or "phew, it must have been the dog?"
It happens to everyone and the timing is usually not ideal. It is part of life, however, whether you are in a meeting or sitting in front of the television. My advice? Say a quiet "excuse me", sit up straight and carry on with the meeting. If you are fortunate enough to have your body give you a 15 second warning, you may be able to quietly excuse yourself and leave the room, returning when you know you won't be putting on a show.
If you still want an assurance that you are not alone in this dilemma, you can refer to the book by Lynda White entitled Everybody Farts. That may help. Then again, maybe not.
