That is the position I found myself in today. I spread myself too thin, trying to cover all of my obligations and hence, this article is being written after 10:00 p.m. Usually I am more organized in my day and I often have my article written ahead of time, just waiting to post it in the morning. This time, my morning started at 5:30 a.m. and it involved my work with a breakfast program at my son’s school. Then it was back home to wait for contractors to show up before I hopped on my bicycle to ride off to a job. All of that before 9:00 a.m.!
I am still in my office catching up on paperwork – the business of running a business. I don’t have anyone else here to pick up the slack so I have to keep on top of billings and following up on outstanding invoices.
Quite frankly, my little jam jar is empty today. I have scraped and spread so much and there are still edges of the toast I haven’t covered, and won’t cover, today. Could I have gotten up earlier to accomplish more today? Not a chance. That early hour had me groaning anyway. No, I could have pushed a little harder yesterday or the day before, but I didn't.
Now I find myself metaphorically checking the cupboard for another jar of jam for tomorrow. In about seven hours, I will be ready again to spread that jam. One good thing about plans is that you can always update and change them. As long as I can make the end result what it should be, I will have my edges covered.
