It took me a while to come around to the idea of a business Facebook page because it seemed “not professional enough.” That has changed over the last few years and some companies don’t even bother with websites anymore.
Part of it is a numbers game – you want to hit on as many aspects of social media as possible. You want to be where the audiences are. While they are browsing through their Facebook friends’ pages, they may think of a product or service and type it into the search line. Don’t you want to be there?
Just remember when creating a business Facebook page that you log out of your personal one. The last thing you want is for people to see all your personal updates. Also, if you create a page under your own name, it may be difficult for people to find your business.
Another thing to remember is that privacy settings will be different on your personal page and your business page. After all, for your business, you definitely do want complete strangers to find you. It would be lovely for all your friends to check out your business page, but if it is only friends that have access, you may not get a lot of business recognition.
Having said the above, increasing your friend list on your business site will help extend your social media reach even more. Facebook is social; make it business too.
