It is easy to read something on the internet and think that just because it is there in digital print, that there is some sort of authority behind it. I would feel much kinder towards the creator of each list if they prefaced it by stating that it was their favourite places to eat or see and not the definitive "best" or "must".
There is enough pressure from all around us to somehow measure up to faceless dictates over our lives and people are easily swayed. Why? Because we wrongly attribute some superior knowledge or judgement to others we don’t even know? Sadly, the answer too often is yes, people are guilty of that.
Here is a thought for the new year: throw off those dictates that weigh heavily upon you! Say “enough”, and trust your own judgement. There now, doesn't that feel better? Instead of a devotion to a list that is, essentially, meaningless, be anti-list instead. Put THAT on your list of things to do.
