It is pretty exciting to be able to let people know that, in addition to being a graphic designer and certified life skills coach, I am now a franchisee of Velofix, a mobile bicycle repair and maintenance company. If you go to www.velofix.com, you will get all the details.
You may wonder what this has to do with graphic design or life skills coaching. Funny enough, all of these businesses are harmonious. In my job as a graphic designer and owner of Giraffe Graphics Inc., I have to market myself, provide good customer service, and hope for word of mouth to help carry my business along. The same with coaching and the same with Velofix. I have to be competent in the nuts and bolts of each of these businesses – design itself, the skill of coaching and the art of bicycle maintenance but the other qualities are common ones important to building a business and making myself into “Brand Karen”.
Full confession here: I am not a qualified bicycle mechanic. My husband, Steve, will be behind the wheel and behind the bicycle wheels. My job? Marketing, follow-up, and promoting the business. Good customer service isn’t hard to understand. It is what you want to experience every time to purchase something, whether it be from a store, an online business, or one that comes to you. If you understand that, you are halfway to creating it for other people.
You have to keep your eye on the experience and, if something goes wrong, deal with it immediately. If there is a bad experience, and we have all had them, the response is what dictates whether or not you will come back.
I have also written before about being a “multipreneur” (my word). Starting and carrying on many businesses. It is exciting for me. It is demanding, stressful at time, and, yes, not for everyone. However, I know now that it is just the thing that makes my day.
You will hear more in this column at a later date. As the saying goes, “watch this space.”
