My first, but not only thought, is about my blog. As I have said in the past, my goal is to publish every Monday and for the most part, I have kept to that. My feeling is that I should have my blog appear in the same time zone as most of my clients. That means that whether I am in Hawaii, Hong Kong or Vancouver, I need to think about what time it is back at the office.
This detail may not matter to many people, but it is one more detail that is important in running an efficient business. That means it is important to me.
If you have clients overseas, your work day will likely be radically different from most other people. You need to be available to your client when they are available. It may mean splitting your workday into segments, dealing with different clients at different parts of the day, may 10 or 12 hours apart. Does it sound as if you never leave the office? Sometimes that's the way I feel. I feel as if I am always on call.
My trade-off to the time issue is that I am doing what I love. If I wanted to live by the dictates of someone else, I wouldn't have my own businesses. But then I would never be doing business from Hawaii, Hong Kong or Vancouver. Sure it is a trade-off but I can live with that. Can you?
