Your website should be above the fold too. This is something I know about but imagine my surprise when it was pointed out to me today that I could be losing a lot of traffic because of my "below the fold" layout.
As a graphic designer, I have a nice big computer screen that lets me view whole pages in original size. When I pull up my website, I see the whole page. That's great, isn't it? Well, not so much, and I will tell you why.
The person that commented showed me my website as viewed on her netbook. Of course it is a much smaller screen and there was my front page. Only it wasn't my whole front page; it wasn't even half of it.
When people look at websites, they often don't bother to scroll down unless the sight is so eye-catching they can't help themselves. Many people just move on and then you have lost potential viewers. So now my next project is for Giraffe Graphics. I need to put myself above the fold.
